• Find licensed professionals that you trust to work through this process.
  
• Permitting and zoning have become clearer, but they are still nuanced. It’s important to us to understand the details and it should be important to you. Know your property and what’s possible before beginning.  
  
• This includes utilities. You’ll need to plan for water, sewer and electricity at a minimum, each of which has their own requirements and costs. 
  
• Design, permitting, utilities and foundation are all required, time-consuming steps you’ll need to sort through before you can build your first wall. Be sure you include these in your timing. Even when done efficiently, building an ADU will take the better part of a year.  
  
• Those same factors that impact the timing of your ADU project will impact the budget. If another company is offering a deal that seems too good to be true, it likely is.
